Demo
Kiri is live on the Chrome Web Store - see kiri.rumi.dev for details.
Overview
Kiri is a lightweight, open-source browser extension that adds missing features and privacy controls to Facebook and Instagram. It works on Chrome, Edge, and Firefox from a single codebase.
Features
- Ghost Mode: Read messages, hide the typing indicator, and watch stories anonymously - including end-to-end encrypted chats.
- Native Video Downloads: Save high-quality MP4s straight from Facebook and Instagram feeds.
- Custom Reactions: React to Facebook Stories with any emoji.
How it's built
- Framework: WXT for cross-browser builds (Chrome/Edge MV3, Firefox MV2).
- UI: React 19, Tailwind CSS v4, Framer Motion, and Radix UI.
- Tooling: Bun and Vite, with store publishing automated through GitHub Actions.
The reverse-engineering behind it is written up on my blog: Reverse Engineering Facebook Messenger.
